Obituary of Reginald "Reg" Norman
Reginald (Reg) Thomas Norman passed away in Dawson Creek, BC on September 30, 2017. He was born in the old Pouce Coupe hospital on July 12, 1930. Reg started out his life on a homestead 2 miles east of Dawson Creek. Eventually the family moved to the Landry area. He started Reg Norman Trucking Ltd. In 1951. In 1953 he married his sweetheart, Jean McGuire. He continued working into his eighties. His business gave many youth a start in life. He worked his whole life for his family and to better his community. He loved walking along a river finding new deposits of gravel. He supported too many community organizations and clubs to mention. One of his favorites was Reg Norman Rangers Hockey Team which consisted of all family members and friends. Among the awards he received were: • Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal which honored significant contributions and achievements by Canadians. • Integrity Award from the Dawson Creek Rotary club in 1993 • Citizen of the Year from the Dawson Creek Athletic Association • 50 Year Membership Award from the Dawson Creek Co-Op • Served on the Dawson Co-Op Board as member and President for many years • Service Award from the Northern Truckers Association Reg is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife of 64 years, Jean, five children, Sally (Berry), Beverly (Fred), Jim (Laurette), Neal (Tara), Lynn (Curtis), 22 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, his sister, Olive Bavins, and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Beth Norman, grandsons Reggie and Justin, and great-grandson, Shea. If love alone could have kept him alive, he would have lived forever. Family, friends, and others whose lives Reg touched, gathered for his funeral service held on October 5, 2017 at the Dawson Creek Alliance Church with Pastor Terry Coe officiating. It was a time to reminisce, to grieve, to support each other, and of course, to chat.
