Obituary of Howard Ian Presley

Howard Ian Presley was born May 3, 1921 at Edam, Saskatchewan. He grew up with two brothers and two sisters on a farm in Popular Dell, Saskatchewan. They lived near the one room school house that he attended until grade eight. In 1937 George Oliver Smith held gospel meetings in the Popular Dell School. Howard accepted Jesus Christ as His Savior. This changed dad's eternal destination and also changed the way he lived. Dad learned to read by reading the Bible. In 1943 at the age of twenty two, dad joined the army for three years. He praised the Lord many times for poor health that kept him on the east coast rather than overseas where he would have had to use his skills. After coming home, he proved up a homestead near Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan. Shortly after he met a young school teacher named Florence. She taught at the one room school where his brother Robert's children attended. At the Christmas concert he asked her if he could take her to her parent's home for the holidays, and at the same time he made arrangements to pick her up and bring her back in the New Year. They rode in a horse and buggy. On August 21, 1948 they were married. Their love kept them together for 61 years. On January 3, 1950 Edwin was born. Shortly after, they bought land near Maidstone, Saskatchewan. January 1951, Lee was born, but died shortly after birth. On November 6, 1951 Lois was born. On May 30, 1956 Minard completed our family. In 1956 we moved to Hinton. Dad worked in the bush logging which led to work in the pulp mill. In 1962 Dad moved the family to Dawson Creek to be part of the fellowship in the Dawson Creek Gospel Hall (Cornerstone Christian Assembly). After coming to Dawson Creek, dad did many different things. For many years he sold Watkins products and then washed transport trucks until he retired at the age of sixty two. Within a year he moved out to the Wooden farm. After Mom went to Peace Haven and Pouce Coupe Hospital, Dad faithfully visited her and fed her lunch. He always talked about the staff and how wonderfully they treated Mom and the fun he had with them. He enjoyed his second family there and we want to thank them very much for that. Dad did not need or want material things; he just loved having his family and friends around. Dad entered the presence of the Lord, September 23, 2009 with Ed and Marlene holding his hands. He leaves behind his beloved Florence, Edwin and Marlene Presley, Lois and Wayne Wooden, Minard and Alice Presley, eleven grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by all. Until we meet again. A Funeral Service was held on September 30, 2009 at 11:00 am from Reynars Funeral Chapel, led by Wayne Wooden. Interment followed in the Brookside Cemetery. Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium, Dawson Creek, B.C.
