Delima Blandin

Obituary of Delima Rose Blandin

In the late 1800's Jean Legare and his bride Emilie, lived in the town of St. Louis, Saskatchewan. There they enjoyed a comfortable life together. Over the next few years they had nine children, four boys and five girls. Delima was one of the girls. She was born on the sixth of May, 1910. She attended school there and grew into the lovely person that we came to know and enjoy for so many years. In 1926 Delima married Pierre Blandin. They were blessed with five fine children, four boys and one girl. In 1948 Pierre passed away and a few years later, in 1957, Marie and her husband, Auguste, moved to East Pine, BC, where he worked in logging and a sawmill business. Delima was still in Saskatchewan and no doubt a lonesome lady. Around this time, Fort St. John lumber Company moved to Moberly Lake and set up a sawmill there on the shore, so in a few months, Auguste and Marie moved to Moberly Lake and Delima followed. She became known as Grand Mere. She was a great help to the Rohel family through the years while raising the children and building their home in to the comfortable place it is. Delima was famous for her abilities with thread and needle. In her spare time she produced many lovely doilies and quilts. One time a few years ago, Delima, my mom and Lucy Waite went on a bus tour through the Western States. They had many stories to tell when they arrived home. One I remember was about not being able to sleep because one of the three snored so loud! So two of them bought ear plugs and all went along fine. Delima has lived here continually since 1958 and has been a well respected and much loved part of the home and community. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Delima passed away peacfully at home on November 25, 2009 at the age of 99 1/2 years. A Funeral Service was held on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 1:00 pm at the Saulteau First Nations Administration Building in Moberly Lake, B.C. Fr. Vener Sabacan officiated, interment was held on December 4, 2009 at the St. Brieux Roman Catholic Cemetery, St. Brieux, Saskatchewan.
