Obituary of Kay Marlene Dolan

Kay Marlene (Parker) Dolan, age 76, died at Rotary Manor in Dawson Creek B.C. on Sunday, February 28th following a courageous struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Kay was born July 17, 1933 in Hanna, Alberta to the late James and Carrie Parker. In June of 1952 she married Frank Dolan in Dawson Creek B.C. In the early years of their marriage, Frank and Kay owned "Lum n'Abner's," an historic stopping place at mile 233 on the Alaska Highway. Later on, they settled in Fort Nelson B.C. to raise their family. Once her children were grown, Kay enjoyed managing the Loomis Courier service in Fort Nelson for a number of years. She loved chatting with the customers she dealt with every day, and took great pride in her work. Kay was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church, and was very involved in the work of the Catholic Women's League. She was also an enthusiastic supporter of the Fort Nelson Historical Society, and served for a number of years on the board of Northern Lights College. Kay's hobbies included playing piano, curling, books, world travel, gardening, and listening to all kinds of music -from old time fiddle tunes to classical symphonies. She was never without her crossword puzzles. With all her varied interests, Kay's life mainly revolved around her many children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and large extended family. She was a fun-loving, intelligent woman with a ready smile and a generous heart. Kay is survived by her devoted family, her many Dolan and Parker relatives, and her dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Carrie, beloved son Patrick, daughter-in-law Vanessa, brothers Harry, Ben, Jim, infant Ray, and sisters Winnie Callison and Marion Parker. Funeral services for Kay Dolan were held Friday, March 5th, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Fort Nelson B.C. Kay is buried in the Fort Nelson cemetery. In memory of Kay, donations may be made to the Northern Rockies Seniors Society Assisted Living Housing Project in Fort Nelson. Kay's family would like to thank the staff of the Special Care Unit at Rotary Manor in Dawson Creek, for all their help and support. The family is grateful for the wonderful care Kay received during her time there.
