Obituary of Eva Callbreath
Presented by Granddaughter Donna McPherson and Grandson Steve Lequereux
Grandma Eva was born in Telegraph Creek, B.C. March 21, 1910 to Charlie and Susie Fox. Eva loved to learn at an early age, teaching herself to read and write as her days in school were limited with having to go on the family trap line with her mom and dad for months at a time. As a very young girl she learned to sew and it was a passion she kept throughout her life.
Eva met Roy Callbreath in 1924 they married and together had 11 children.
She was a lady with many talents, gardening, beadwork, embroidery, sewing, tanning and working with hides, making gloves, mukluks and slippers.
In the early 70's after they closed their Cafe, Roy and Eva bought a home in Fort Nelson BC. After the passing of Grandpa Roy, a new chapter of her life began. In 1977 she bought herself a home in Dawson Creek. Her home was a family gathering place at Christmas Turkey dinners she had prepared until she was well into her 80's.
Travelling was also a great passion of Grandma's. In 1982 at the age of 72 she became a world traveler going on a senior's tour with friends to Eastern Canada, London England, Scotland and New York.
At the age of 82 Grandma found yet another passion.Painting. She became a member of the Art Society in Dawson Creek. Many hours were spent with her paintbrush in hand at her easel. She loved to walk and would time herself from her house on the hill to my Mom's house which was a good mile and a half and the next time she would try to be faster. These days we call that marathon training.
In 2002 Eva moved into Rotary Manor. She joined in on all the activities they held. She especially loved the monthly birthday parties they held every month as she could dance to live music. On the monthly birthday party in March just a few days after her 100th Birthday she set herself a goal and danced 100 steps.
