Obituary of Eileen Pringle

Eileen was born in Carmengay, Alberta on July 31, 1920 to Margret and Alexander Edey. She was one of nine children. In 1931 when the depressionhit, the family moved Wanham, Alberta. Eileen went to school at Westvail. She also worked on a farm preparing meals for the thrashing crew. Eileen then joined the service in 1941when the war broke out and was one of the first women enrolled in army from the Peace River District. She was stationed at Currie Barracks working in the Q/M distributing clothes to soldiers. Eileen ended up sick with scarlet and rheumatic fever, at a time when thankfully penicillin had just come out. Eileen was introduced to Ralph who was also in the air force as an aero engine mechanic. Eileen and Ralph were both honourably discharged from the service andspent a couple years dating. In 1947 Eileen Gladys Edey became Eileen Pringle. Eileen worked at a silk shop called Sobies. The manager of the Bay department store promised double the wage so she finally agreed to work there. They decided to move north to Wanham, Alberta where they would begin a family and farm. Together they had four sons. The family then moved to Pouce Coupe B.C. Eileen and Ralph taught their children their love for the outdoors, fishing, hunting, river boating and the importance of being together. Their time spent picnicking, farming, barbecuing, birthdays, hunting, and river boating were memories to last a life time. Grandma taught her boys many valuable life skills.... even how to knit, and many of us her passion to garden. It was a common sight to walk in the back door and see grandma kneading dough in the big caner or making moose stew. She canned fish, moose meat, chicken and jam for others to enjoy. The family was blessed with warmth from homemade sweaters, mittens and scarves and blankets. Grandma was an amazingly hard working woman. Her beautiful smile and sparkling eyeswould light up any room, she was always happy and made you feel special. Eileen was predeceased by her parents Margaret and Alexander Edey; her loving husband Ralph; Grandson Ryan Pringle; sisters Loretta Edey, Margaret Preston, Jean Edey; brothers, Charlie, Jack, Gordon.
