Obituary of Mary Sheppard

Mary Louise Sheppard was born March 5, 1926, in Hickory North Carolina to Emerson and Minnie Hahn. Mary was raised a farmer's daughter in Berwyn, Alberta enjoying both the town life and summers at the homestead. In her early years Mary enjoyed singing and won some singing contests in school. She graduated from high school and moved to Edmonton to pursue hair dressing. A short time after that she met the love of her life - a strapping young soldier named William James Sheppard. They were married on July 11th, 1947. Bill a veteran of the war decided to try his hand at farming and Bill and Mary moved to Golata Creek to start a farm and a family. They had three boys, Barry, Burt and Colon and the long awaited daughter Karen. In 1966 Bill and Mary decided to move the family to Dawson Creek. Mary received her Canadian citizenship in 1987. She was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary Branch 141. She loved to have a garden and would always have plenty of fresh vegetables around the house. When Mary was not spending time with her grandchildren or family she lived a very relaxed life. You could find her with her TV guide with little x's marking which show was on and when and of course always having BIG x's by her favourite show The Price Is Right. Mary was a very special grandmother to me and to others. She would never miss a phone call to wish any of us kids a happy birthday nor would she ever hesitate to tell one of us to pull up our pants. On her 80th birthday she shared a cold beer with some of us to solidify her being the coolest grandmother ever. I think most of the family would agree that she always made you feel at home and for many of us, she let us live at her home. She will be greatly missed by all of us but we know that she is in a happier place. Mary is predeceased by her parents Emerson and Minnie; husband Bill; sons Barry and Burt; brothers Wiedrick, Dale; sisters Aurelia, Faith, Mary, Doris. She is survived by her children Colon (Yolanda), Karen (John); daughter-in-law Ann; grandchildren Meagan, Matya, Sam, Brandon, Mitchell, Matthew, Tyler, Trish (Doug), BJ; great grandchildren Brad, Devin, Kaylea, Chris; great great grandson Blayke.
