Obituary of David Thompson

David Thompson was born November 17, 1947 in Dawson Creek, B.C., to Lawrence and Katrina Thompson. He had two brothers, Roy and Wade. David's first job was at a sawmill and then he moved to the Yukon for four years, working with CNT. It was there he met his wife Pearl (Moore) in Dawson City, Yukon. They were married in 1969 and Dave moved her back to his hometown. They spent 41 years together. They had three children: Kurt and twin daughters Lorraine and Louise. Dave started out farming on his parents' farm. If he didn't know anything about a new project out came the books until he figured it out on his own. He then worked numerous jobs: Friesen Trucking, the City of Dawson Creek, Reg Norman Trucking, Canadian Freightways, Motorways and then Rempel Trucking. Dave loved to buy homes to fix them up for resale and move again until his wife said "That's enough." They then moved to their property on Bear Mountain. He was proud of his accomplishments and was a good honest man who believed in hard work, reaching goals and living his dreams. He had the appearance of a grizzly but was a teddy bear at heart. Dave started work with L.P. from the start of the plant in 1987 to his retirement in October 2009. He said he wasn't retired, just an occupational change at which he took pride once again, his trucking. Dave loved touring and riding on his Goldwing Bike and volunteering as an auxiliary for the local Police. He pursued that career and was accepted into the RCMP, but didn't want to leave his family behind. David was a great cook, always shining at doing one better than his wife. He enjoyed reading western books and was an avid TV watcher. He was very proud of his fruit trees. David enjoyed visiting with his family and friends. He loved to take off on his quad to the neighbours for a coffee or to help out with the mechanics. David was predeceased by his father and his son Kurt. He is survived by his loving wife Pearl and twin daughters Lorraine (Scott) and Louise (David) and four grandchildren: Jacob, James, Micheal and Megan, of whom he watched over with pride. David also leaves his mother, Katrina Thompson and his brothers Roy (Joyce, Troy and Ginger) and Wade (Minna, Shelby and Nash) as well as his sister in law Shirley (Fred) Sacco of Fairbanks, Alaska, and numerous cousins. David passed away on Monday, July 5, 2010 in Dawson Creek at the age of 62 years. A memorial service was held on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 1:00 pm at St Paul's Lutheran Church, Dawson Creek. Pastor Noel Smith officiated; interment will be at a later date. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of David to St Paul's Lutheran Youth Group.
