Obituary of Raymond Lewis McFaul
Raymond was born on April 22, 1944 in Dawson Creek, B.C. He passed away on August 20, 2010 at the age of 66 years.
Ray came from humble beginnings; when he was a new born he was brought home to a log cabin on 17th Street. There was no running water, the only heat was a wood stove, and there was no indoor plumbing.
Believe me having to go to the outhouse when it was 40 below would make anyone humble.
Ray survived the Cabin and went onto college in Prince George and was working towards his pilot's license when sadly his plans were cut short our father passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in 1965 at the age of 51.
Ray had to put his own dreams aside and went up north to work and help out with the family. At that time I was only 8 years old, Lloyd was 12, Eileen 19 and Ray was barely 21 - quickly he became a father figure to me and made a huge impact on my life.
He taught me manners, he taught me not to swear, he bought me my first dress (against my will) and made me wear it to the grade 7 dance and was thoroughly disgusted when he heard I accessorized with cowboy boots. Ray made it possible for me to pursue my dreams and have a career in figure skating; but the proudest moment I had with my brother was in 1975 when he walked me down the aisle.
HOWEVER RAY'S GREATEST LEGACY ARE HIS CHILDREN
Ian, his oldest, his friend, someone he could depend on for anything. He loved to tell me of the fun he had when he went to Vancouver to visit you and Carla.
Gavin, his precious child who is with him right now, Gav just didn't want to spend another birthday without his dad so he called him up early.
Ryan, your dad was so proud of you for all your accomplishments in the past few years and of course for giving him 3 of the most beautiful grand children (Emma, Brennan and Isabelle) they made his life so much sweeter and as he described Randi to me . "I couldn't have picked a better mother for my grandchildren" Ray was so proud the day you 2 were married.
Rachel, his baby, his little girl you were the icing on the cake to compliment this beautiful family and I assure you your dad will be with you in spirit for all the milestones you will reach throughout your life.
And of course the lady who made all these children possible, Ray's wife and companion for 38 years, his dear Kathy.
I remember the day he met Kathy. But first I should tell where he was at in the dating scene at the ripe old age of 26 & 27. Some of you may not believe this but Ray was kind of a city guy before he moved to Doe River. I believe he still had his new, 1967 sky blue fire bird at the time.
He would come to town from the Bennet Dam, where he was working at the time, and usually fly to Vancouver to hit the night clubs. Oil Can Harry's and the Cave were a few of his favorites. Ray had quite the wardrobe for travel, no jeans or t-shirts, beautiful dress pants and shirts - and god help you if they weren't ironed properly. He would stay at a 4 star hotel in down town Vancouver, party with beautiful women and then head back to the dam.
But one weekend he stayed in town and went to a dance with some friends where he met (this girl with great legs). The next morning he proceeded to tell me, with great detail, exactly what she was wearing - short purple suede skirt with high black boots. The rest is history.
Ray was loved and respected by many - taken too soon - but will live on within his children, grand children and the hearts of all of us.
INTEGRITY - KINDNESS - COMPASSION
These are the words that come to mind when I think of my brother Ray.
