Obituary of Delbert Anderson

Delbert Wilfred Anderson was born on the 27th of April, 1922 at Westbourne Manitoba. He was the youngest of 7 children born to Oscar Anderson and Belle Chantler. Del was known as Sonny until he joined the armed services. Del was married to Dorothy Booth in 1946 and they had 3 children, David, Debra and Donn. He and Dot divorced and he met Winnie in 1960. Del became a member of Winnie's family of two daughters, Gail Farnsworth and Beverley Demmans and of course their families. Del leaves his wife Winnifred, his son Donn and daughter Debra (of Vancouver), his sister Gladys Green of Abbotsford, BC, his special nephew George and wife Sharon Anderson of Adams Lake, BC. Extended family of son-in-law Ted Farnsworth of Chetwynd BC. Daughter Beverley Demmans of Kamloops, BC; grandchildren Brett and wife Wendy Farnsworth of Cochrane AB; Dee Manahan and her partner Ron Bruce of Chetwynd and Brad and his wife Rhonda Farnsworth of Chetwynd; Christine and her husband Barry Baker of Kamloops and Lee John Demmans of Kamloops. His great grandchildren, Kanaye Manahan and partner Craig Renfrew of Calgary AB; Kody Manahan and Wadine Bedean of Chetwynd; Kristin and Brody Farnsworth of Chetwynd; Brittany Alexander Baker, Hailey and Shae Baker all of Kamloops. Jennifer Robertson and Tyler Branson of Cochrane AB; Grandpa never met his great, great grandson Nash Renfrew (2 months) of Calgary AB. Del was predeceased by his father and mother, three brothers, Wray, Errol and Orlo Anderson, two sisters Flora Haegan and Evelyn Simpson. His son David, daughter Gail Farnsworth, son-in-law Roger Demmans, grandchildren, Bev's twin daughters Eileen and Elaine and Bev's son Garth Demmans. Grandpa joined the Air Force in 1942 and after basic training in Manning AB, he left for overseas, where he served in England, France, Belgium and Holland. Grandpa was a tail gunner and was strapped into the plane with no parachute. He said he always had a mickey of gin in his flight uniform, just in case. After the war Grandpa resided in Vancouver, BC until 1976 when he and Winnie moved to Genelle, BC. In 1980 they moved to Chetwynd BC and resided here until his passing. Grandpa was a life member of the Elks. He was a part of the patrol team in Vancouver, which he really enjoyed and he was Past Exalted Ruler here in Chetwynd Elks Lodge 500. Grandpa was also life member of the Legion. He was past president of Legion Branch 258 and Grandpa was instrumental in helping the Air Force Cadets being formed here in Chetwynd. Del passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2010 in Chetwynd, BC at the age of 88 years. A memorial service was held on Tuesday, September 21, at 2:00 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, Pastor Bill Evans officiated.
