James Stefanyk

Obituary of James Brian Stefanyk

Jim was born to Pete and Ann Stefanyk on January 9, 1950 in Dawson Creek, BC. The family resided in Bonanza, Alberta and Jim had many happy memories of growing up on the farm with his two older brothers, Ed and Larry and younger sister and brother Marilyn and Philip. Jim received his elementary education in Bonanza school and attended high school in Dawson Creek, graduating in 1969. He first worked in automotive parts and sales in Dawson Creek. He enjoyed the work, made many lifelong friends, and remained at that job for several years. Jim married Denise Peterson in 1972 and they eventually moved to Bonanza where they farmed and Jim became self-employed, with a backhoe and steam truck, doing agricultural and oilfield work. He truly enjoyed his work, and once again, made many lasting friendships. Jim loved his family, was hard working, kind, generous to a fault, and loved kids and animals, especially dogs. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed people. He, and his dogs, could often be found in his shop with two radios playing, each turned to a different station, enjoying a coffee with a friend. Jim was predeceased by his dad, Peter Stefanyk, his grandparents, several aunts, uncles as well as his father and mother-in-law Bill and Anna Mae Peterson. Jim is survived by his wife Denise, his mother Ann Stefanyk, Sister Marilyn Crandall and family, his brothers Ed (Elsie), Larry (Dorothy) and family, Philip (Cindy) and family, several aunts, uncles, cousins, his extended family and many friends. He also leaves two very special young men, Kevin and Brian Crocker and their families. Jim loved them and they were considered part of his family. He will be loved always and never forgotten. Jim passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 in Dawson Creek, BC, at the age of 60 years. With respect to Jim's wishes no formal funeral service will be held.
