Obituary of Hattie Louise Cooke

Born Hattie Louise Fellers on March 19, 1929 in Arras, B.C. Hattie was the fifth child born to Julian & Ada Fellers. Hattie attended Springhill School in Fellers Heights, from kindergarten to grade eight. Going further meant correspondence or being boarded out in town, which was unaffordable at the time. Hattie was adventurous and inquisitive and continued her education through life experience. She had great friends and was a great friend. She loved to attend country dances and ride horses with friends and family and make every day full. In Hattie's late teens, she took a job at the Co-op in the fashions department. She modeled clothing for the co-op and Sears catalogues. She loved this job as she was a people person. In 1947 a fire burned the co-op to the ground so Hattie had a friend set her up with a job at a restaurant in Watson Lake. This is where she met Frank Cooke and they married on the Liard River in Lowerpost by the local game warden in 1948. One year later Frankie was born, followed by Terry, Dianne, Mac, Tammy, Gloria and Donna. In 1964 Hattie and Frank purchased a hunting territory from Skook Davidson on the Kechika River. She quickly found out the purpose for having children as there was a job for everyone! Frank and Mac became guides, Terry was the pilot, and all the girls were cooks. Hattie was great at organizing everyone. It was a lot of work but she never seemed to tire of it. Family meant everything to Hattie and no matter how large the family grew she was always so excited to take the new ones in her arms. As each grandchild came, the beautiful expression on her face as she held each baby was one of such pride and joy. As the grandchildren grew Hattie made each one feel as if they were her favourite, and it was their little secret. As Hattie's unpredictable life continued, she and Frank separated but always remained great friends. In 1981 Hattie and Don Morrison started their life together. They travelled a lot together and moved a lot as well, building new homes that were always open and welcome. Hattie loved her gardens and she loved to make crafts. She had a great courage to face life's challenges, a great motivation to move forward and great strength to go on. She made each one of us feel unique and special and taught us to make the best of any situation, taking the good parts from it and discarding the rest. She lives in all of us yesterday, today and always and we love her and will miss her dearly. Hattie passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 in Dawson Creek, B.C., at the age of 81 years. A memorial service was held on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 1:00 pm at the Alliance Church, Pauline Haycock officiated. Very Respectfully Reynars Funeral Home and Crematorium
