Obituary of Jean Roberta Quinn

Jean was born Jean Roberta Nickolauson but was known to us all as Jean Quinn. She was born at home on Sunday, April 18, 1920 in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan to Bob & Florence Nicholson. Jean's days were filled with cooking, cleaning and baking bread. Her baking treats were so loved that they never usually had a chance to cool off. She cooked in a guiding and outfitting camp, where she could cook anything and everything and bake without an oven. She loved being in the mountains. Crocuses were her favorite flower. Jean loved writing articles for the local paper and writing out family stories. She thought it was important that we all knew the family history. That goes along with recipes and she always had a pile of those to share. It was no surprise to her family and friends when she received the Century Citizen of the Year award in 2005. She cared very much for the community and the people in it. She was very proud to be a pioneer of Chetwynd. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary for many years where she gladly gave hand knitted and crocheted outfits and blankets. Jean would help who she could or whenever she could. She was instrumental in forming the Pine Valley Seniors and all the activities that this entailedshe enjoyed participating in the Senior Games and cherished the friendship of all its members. She loved carpet bowling and you would see her competitive side whenever she was skipping a game. She also loved a good game of crib. Seeing the curling games on the TV during the 2010 Olympics was something that she just couldn't miss. I am sure she watched every game. Jean felt very passionate about Chetwynd having a residence for those seniors that needed a bit of care. Surerus Place was her dream come true. She and Ray moved in on March 1, 2010. She so appreciated the care and attention of the staff there and the homemakers who helped her. She loved you all. On April 18, 2010 Jean celebrated her 90th birthday surrounded by her family and friends, the two most important things in her life. Jean was a loving mother to 7 children, loving grandmother to 21 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her father and mother, Brothers Eric and Wilbur Nicholson and daughter Joyce Elizabeth Weller. She will be sorely missed but so fondly remembered. We love you Ma Eulogy Presented By; Daughter-In-Law Becky Wark Jean passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2010 in Chetwynd, BC at the age of 90 years.
