Obituary of Donald Cameron McLauchlan

Donald McLauchlan, a long time resident of the Peace River Country passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 in Dawson Creek, B.C. at the young age of 72 years. Donald was born on June 12, 1938 in Melfort, Saskatchewan. He was one of three children born to John and Mary. Donald began his career in the wholesale industry at the young age of 14. Working for McDonalds, Malkins, R Dufour and Kelly Douglas. The majority of his career was spent in Dawson Creek, with a brief stint in Fort St John, transferring to Prince George and then Kelowna to eventually retire. Upon retirement Donald returned to Pouce Coupe where he bought a fixer upper and with the help of family and friends made his house a home. The coffee was always on and his door was always open. Throughout his life Donald had a great love and respect for the outdoors, his lawn chair and backpack always in the trunk just in case a side road called to him. Camping, fishing and hunting filled his life from an early age, and he enjoyed these outside activities with all his family and friends. Puggin's Mountain was one of his favourite places to explore. When he was younger "hunting season started when you could see the gun at the bottom of the freezer". Donald took his responsibility to family and friends very seriously and worked hard to ensure they never did without. Words are not enough to explain the value he put on both. He taught all his children a love and respect for the outdoors and gave them a sense of humor to help them through difficult times. Donald was diagnosed with cancer in June 2010. His courage, humor and strength through the past five months was admired by all he met through the journey. He was an inspiration. Donald is predeceased by his parents, John and Mary, brother Alexander, and son Kenneth. He is survived by his sister, Helen (Tony). Children John (Barb), Mary (Jim), Chris (Liz) and Kevin (Erin). Grandchildren, Jenna, Jesse, Kourtlynn and Julia. At Donald's request a private family celebration of his life will take place in Puggin's Mountain (when weather permits). He will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Very Respectfully Reynars Funeral Home and Crematorium.
