Obituary of George Clarence Kunz

George Clarence Kunz 1953 - 2010 George Clarence Kunz was born on March 27th, 1953, to Leo and Paula Kunz in Leroy Saskatchewan. George grew up on the family farm as the sixth of nine children and the youngest boy. Amongst his siblings and cousins, George was known as the bear' when playing adventure games on the farm. In 1962, the family moved to Dawson Creek. George went out to work at a young age working in various lumber camps and mills from Fort Nelson to Mackenzie. In the mid seventies his logging career took him to the North end of the Vancouver Island. It was here where his life took a change. George wasn't entirely happy with a gal that was working in one of the logging yards, so he fired her and hired Deb Hunter, as she was in need of work before setting off to Australia. This is where the romance of a long distance and long lasting relationship began. George and Debbie were engaged and married in 1980 and settled back in the Peace country. George always provided his family well, being one of the owner-managers of Kiskatinaw Farms, a heavy duty equipment operator for 15 years at Quintette Coal Ltd, in Tumbler Ridge and was employed with the Peace River Regional District for the past 12 years. In 1984 George and Deb had their first born Alisha and a year later their second daughter Stephanie was born. George and his family purchased their property in Arras, where they worked the land, raised a small herd of cattle and built their log home in 1994. Their home was always filled with love, laughter and good times with family and friends frequenting and his farewell's at the front door were often the longest part of his visit. George was an outdoorsman and spent a lot of family time quading, canoeing, horseback riding and mountain packing, and of course more recently found a new passion - Sailing!! George and Deb's sail boat purchase provided many hours of enjoyment, visiting and relaxation, with the gang at Moberly and all those who shared the winds, waves with them! George was very proud of his girls and all that they had accomplished - they had learned to live life to its fullest; being happy and true to themselves was what they learnt from their Father! George boosted of his girls always and as recent as this fall he proudly gave Stephanie's hand in marriage to Travis Johnston in Cuba in November and he was by Alisha's side when she downed her first deer on the back 40, along with her partner Colin Niemeyer! In 2010 George and Debbie became proud grandparents to their first granddaughter, Abigale - being a Grandpa, was truly a magical experience, one that he forever cherished. George and Debbie were never far apart, loving and enjoying life together as one! Family was most important to them both - and the strength of these two lives continues to shines throughout the lives of the two Kunz and Hunter families! George will be truly missed by his loving family and by each of those who's lives he touched. George passed away unexpectedly on December 9th, 2010 at 57 years of age. A celebration of his Life service was held on December 15th, at the South Peace United Church with Reverend Marilyn Carroll officiating.
