Obituary of Alfreda Joy Leer

Joy was born on October 18, 1939 at home, in Whitelaw Alberta, to Beatrice and Ernie Smith. She has three older siblings, Art, Beth and Jacqueline. Jacqueline died at the age of two before Joy was born. She attended school in Whitelaw, Alberta and in Dawson Creek. Joy met the love of her life Bob Leer, he proposed to Joy in December and on April 14, 1962 they married in an elegant candle light ceremony. The next year was filled with a lot of activity as they were building their first home and Joy was pregnant with their first child. Their son Brant was born on March 29, 1963. Brant was a 10 lb healthy baby boy and a perfect addition to this loving family. On May 12, 1964 Brant was joined by his younger brother Duane a much smaller 8lb baby. Joy was awestruck by her new little boy. On November 10, 1965 Sandra was born completing the family of five and giving Joy a little girl to dress, sit on the bed and take pictures of. Joy always made a big deal about birthdays. It didn't matter how old you were, she threw a party and invited all of the family. She stayed active in all of the children's activities. Both boys played hockey and baseball; often spending summer vacation at hockey schools. Sandra figure skated and played soft ball. Whatever the sport or activity, Joy always did her share of the work. She loved to spend the hot summer days at the man-made lake with her kids and nieces and nephews. Joy loved to travel and looked forward to holidays. The family made many summer holiday trips to Sask. fishing and swimming in the lakes and visiting the Leer side of the family. Brant and Dawn gave Joy her first Grandbaby. Ried was born on February 28, 1994 he was the apple of Grandma's eye. Then Deon blessed her by presenting himself on May 10, 1996. Sandra added to the family two half grown boys Mitchell and Trevor. Family meant so much to Joy and the birth of each child was special to her. Autumn was the last grandchild to join the family in 1996. Joy loved to shop and loved Christmas -Sharing this time with family and friends was always the best in her world.
