Obituary of Gerhard Homburg

Gerhard was born December 15, 1942 in Magdeburg, Germany; he passed peacefully at home on March 1, 2011, in Dawson Creek, B.C. He was the youngest of his family with 2 brothers and 4 sisters. In 1982 Gerhard and his wife Tina immigrated to Canada and bought a farm near Tomslake, BC. For the next 15 years they enjoyed the country life and eventually sold the farm to relocate to Dawson Creek. Gerhard was known as a highly skilled tile setter and his work was always in high demand in the Peace Country area. His craftsmanship, reliability and quality of work was exceptional. Besides his daily commitment to his work he was an enthusiastic outdoor person and nature lover. Canoeing, hiking and camping in the wild was a big part of his life. He had an immense knowledge of flora and fauna. His most beloved place of serenity and peace however was the Bear Mountain Community Forest close to Dawson Creek. It was always a delight to listen to Gerhard's adventures and stories - true or not so true! He had a rather balanced view of the world and was always ready and eager for passionate discussions about life, politics and other interesting topics. Gerhard's fine character and personality allowed him to learn and teach, to show his understanding, respect and compassion towards other. Throughout the last months of his illness Tina was with him to provide great care, support and comfort. We will always remember you as a happy and content person, willing to be there for others.
