Obituary of Mary McNamara

Mary Ann McNamara was born on September 24, 1909 in Riviere Qui Barre, Alberta. She was the middle child of seven born to Joe and Leona Paquette. Mary Ann started her working career as young women in her Father's General Store. She worked outside the home most of her life. Family was very important to her. She loved spending time with her four sisters and two brothers. She missed being close to family when she moved to Dawson Creek with her husband Leonard and daughter Pat in 1958. Leonard was the love of her life. They grew up in the same community and in 1942 were married. She was devastated when Leonard passed away in 1979. Not a day went by when she didn't think of him. She was a wonderful Mother, Mother in law and Grandmother. Her two grandchildren, Alana and Kevin were a delight to her. She loved spending time with them and always had sweets and food they liked on hand when they would come to visit. She was an incredible woman, never idle and very talented. She loved to bake and made the best pies and squares. She sewed, knitted and crocheted. She even did a bit of carpentry, building a room divider, a corner shelving unit and even a fence. She could wallpaper, do brick work and install wall panelling. Her last project was painting her kitchen cupboards at the age of 90. Her favourite hockey team was the Vancouver Canucks and she hated to miss any games on T.V. It's too bad she never saw them win a Stanley Cup. She loved to dance, play bingo, cards and games. She was an amazing woman with consistent prayer life and a strong faith in God. Mary Ann passed away peacefully on March 12, 2011 with her daughter and granddaughter holding her hand as she slipped away to be with the Lord. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Pat (Walter Geist), Granddaughter Alana (Dan Hiebert), great grandchildren Cale, Ryan, Hayes and Vahlen, grandson Kevin (Verena), sister Florence Dumont, sister in law Rollande Paquette and many nieces and nephews. We know there is much rejoicing in heaven as she reunited with the ones she loved. We will miss you. A prayer service was held on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 7:00 pm at the Notre Dame Catholic Church in Dawson Creek, B.C. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, March 18 at 11:00 am, Fr. Michael Anyasoro officiated. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Mary to the Step Up "N" Ride Society Box 2459 Dawson Creek, B.C. V1G 4T9 Mary Ann was laid to rest with her husband Leonard in the Dawson Creek City Cemetery. Very Respectfully Reynars Funeral Home and Crematorium.
