Obituary of Eva Shultz

Betty was born on May 30, 1939 in Eckville, Alberta. She passed away in her home in Tumbler Ridge, BC after a lengthy battle with cancer on March 25, 2011. Betty was the youngest of 8 children. Her family farmed northeast of Eckville. She went to school at the Estonian School until grade 4, then onto the Eckville School. When Betty was 16, she went with her parents and brother Bill to work in a lumber camp. From there, she began work at The Imperial Bank of Canada (CIBC). Betty married in 1960 and later moved to Red Deer and onto Edmonton. She had three children, James, Ann and Frank. They lived on the west end of Edmonton. Her and her husband Frank divorced in 1974. Betty continued to raise her children in west Edmonton. She worked as a loans officer at the CIBC in Meadowlark Mall. In 1984 Betty was re-united with an "old acquaintance", Jim Shultz. Jim was also from Eckville, (a very good friend of her brother Bill). Betty and Jim had dated briefly years before. Jim was now a widower and had three children of his own, (Jeff, Chris and David). They started courting again and were married in August 1985. They lived for a short while in Ft.Saskatchewan and on to Bruderheim. In 2002 Betty and Jim moved to Tumbler Ridge. Ann and Monty and their children Zach and Kiera lived there as well. They settled into the community very well. Most summers were spent down at Gull Lake Alberta at sunset campground. To say Betty was kind would be an understatement. She always was concerned for others. Her greatest loves were her family and home. She made anyone who showed up very welcome. The coffee pot was always ready to go on. Her grandchildren spent a lot of time at grandma's house. She also welcomed anyone's dog who wanted to come in for a visit with her little Chasey (her dog). The meals she prepared were second to none. You left her home with a feeling of warmth and satisfaction. Both in your belly and your heart! Betty was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Irene Palm, Brothers, Harold, Jack and Ron. Sisters, Thelma and Phyllis. Betty is survived by her loving husband, Jim Shultz. Her children, James Johnston, Ann More, (Monty) and Frank Johnston, (Joanna). Grandchildren; Children of James, Kiya and Cedar, Children of Ann, Zach and Kiera. Step Children, Jeff, Chris and David, Betty's Siblings, Leo Palm (Ruth) and Bill Palm (Ellen) For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Betty to the Tumbler Ridge Health Centre Foundation Box 80 220 Front St. Tumbler Ridge B.C.
