Obituary of Joe Legare

Joseph Napoleon Legare was born on Tuesday, February 16, 1932 in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan. He was the only son of Rose and Charlie Legare. Joe was raised on a farm near McCord, Saskatchewan and attended school at Milly, then at Varsity. After his school days he worked on various farms and ranches in the area until he moved to BC in 1956. From Dawson Creek, Joe moved to Fort St John, BC where he was working for Canadian Coachways. There, he met Mary Doepker, they were married July 2, 1966. Their honeymoon got off to an interesting start when they stopped for gas, which overflowed into the car. When Joe was cleaning his hands, he heard something fall on the floor. After driving for awhile they noticed that Joe's wedding ring was missing. They turned around and arrived back at the service station just as they were locking up, Joe went back to where he had cleaned his hands and there on the floor was his ring. Upon returning from the honeymoon Joe moved the family to Dawson Creek. Joe worked for Canadian Coachways, also Rempel Trail out in camps in the Fox Creek area, then for CN Rail. He ended his working career with the City of Dawson Creek when he retired in 1992. Joe's favourite pastime was playing cards, with cribbage being his favourite. He was very lucky at crib and managed to get the highest hand possible (29), twice, once while playing crib with Janet's Uncle Herman, who was just as excited as Joe, and the second time while playing solitaire crib. He really enjoyed family get-togethers, going out for supper, lunch, and breakfast and getting together with friends. He spent many hours playing with his grandchildren and his great-grandchild, Shalynn. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help, whether it is family, friends, neighbours, and even us, as kids and teenagers, probably to keep us out of trouble. Joe you did a great job as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. We want you to know how much we appreciated everything you did for us and we will never stop loving you. Joe passed away on Friday, March 25, 2011 in Dawson Creek at the age of 79 years. Memories Presented By Susan Haugen. A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 2, at 1:00 pm from Reynars Funeral Chapel, Pauline Haycock officiated. Interment will be at a later date.
