Obituary of Ralph Lutz

Ralph David Lutz was born on Wednesday, November 14, 1928 in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. He grew up taking care of his only little brother after his mother died when he was five years old. Ralph married Fern in 1947 and they had three children, Valerie, Allana and Brian. Fern and Ralph divorced some years later and Ralph later met his wife to be Edna. Edna and Ralph married in 1980 in what they fondly remembered as a shotgun wedding as I jokingly have pictures standing beside them with my shotgun. He helped Edna raise her six small children from her first marriage that ended when her young husband died. Reinold, Louise, Paul, Pauline, Viola and Vivian also have special memories of Ralph. Ralph was very involved in various organizations. He served on the board of the Dawson Co-op; had a term as president of the Dawson Creek Lions Club and received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for Dedicated Humanitarian Services from the Lions Club International Foundation. With the loving guidance and persistence of Edna; Ralph joined the St. Paul's Lutheran Church and enjoyed his new community. Ralph was a jack of all trades and his talents were not limited. He had a shop that is the envy of all his friends, sons-in-law and grandson's. He spent lots of time puttering in his shop. Ralph loved to gather the family whenever he could and together he and Edna cooked and carved countless turkeys and tons of pancakes. He enjoyed his grand children so much and they all enjoyed him. One of Ralph's passions was playing the banjo; Valerie remembers him singing "You are my Sunshine" to her when she was a small child. Ralph loved his pets and they were a source of joy for him especially when he became housebound because of his health. We will miss Ralph's talent for knowing what's important, his curious looks, his always being there...and his strawberry pancakes. His example lives as an inspiration for all of us to follow.
