Obituary of Kenneth Bruce Wood

With great sadness we announce the passing of Kenneth Bruce Wood at Chetwynd Regional Hospital on Sunday, June 26th 2011. "Bruce" was born in Dawson Creek, BC on July 7, 1948 to parents Kenneth and Phyllis Wood ( nee MacDougall). He was 9 years old when his family moved to Chetwynd, where he happily lived his entire life. It was there that he met and married his soul mate Margaret (Savard ). Together they raised their three sons, Dody, Keith and Kenneth and spent many years as busy hockey parents. They were blessed with four beautiful grand- children; grandsons, Bayley and Benjamin, and twin granddaughters Zara and Zinia. Bruce was active in the community and a longtime involved member of the Chetwynd Legion. He both coached and umpired his beloved game of baseball and was especially proud to play with all three of his sons on the family baseball team, the Woodchuckers. He was also an avid golfer and a champion curler, known for his bonspiel antics. Bruce was also known for his competitiveness and "do anything to win" attitude and was never one to back down from a dare or challenge. Having worked most of his life in the Forestry Industry, Bruce was a respected employee at both Canfor and West Fraser mills. He possessed an unbreakable work ethic and was absolutely always early for work - or any other function, earning him the nick-name of "never late Brucey". He was always the life of the party and will be forever remembered for his sense of humor and kind heartedness. Bruce loved life and he loved his family. He worked hard and he played hard. A loving husband and devoted father, Bruce was always a proud Papa, and placed family values above all else. Bruce was the second oldest of nine children and is survived by his wife Margaret, sons Dody, Keith, and Kenneth, his sisters, Ethel, Brenda, Roxanne, Connie, Joanne and younger brother Lance. He will be missed by his four grandchildren, his many nieces and nephews, and friends and co-workers throughout the community. He was predeceased by his parents Kenneth and Phyllis, and brothers Timothy and Dennis. Perhaps Bruce's nephew Chris said it best: " Uncle Bruce is in heaven golfing with Timmy and uncle Denny. Bruce and Denny are trying to find ways to cheat and Timmy has thrown his clubs in the bush by the sixth hole." " We'll see you when we get there." A Funeral service was held on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Chetwynd Baptist Church. Pastor Bill Evans officiated. Interment followed in the Tuscoola Mountain Cemetery. For friends so wishing, donations can be made in memory of Bruce to the Chetwynd Hospital Foundation Palliative Care Room.
