Obituary of Augusta Henriette Ethier

Augusta Henriette Ethier was born on June 4th, 1915, in Domremy, SK. She was the first born child of Henri and Jeanne Guillet. Henriette grew up in a deeply religious home with her parents, three sisters (Alice, Gabrielle, Lorraine) and three brothers (Edouard, Clement, Felix.) Her great love of music began at a very early age when she would go to her Uncle's home at recess to play the piano. By the age of 9, Henriette was baking bread and making pies. A few years later she began working for others, taking care of children, cleaning and cooking. Henriette met Louis Ethier and they married, October 14th, 1936, also in Domremy, SK. They had six children, three boys (Edward, Leo and Maurice) and three girls (Anita, Denise and Aline.) Life was always a challenge for them and they both worked very hard to provide for their family. In 1958, the Ethier family moved to Little Prairie, BC, now known as Chetwynd. Henriette worked in her home, babysitting children, taking in laundry and sewing for others as well as caring for her own family. Henriette, was a long standing member of the Catholic Women's League, and provided many meals for Father Jungbluth, the Sisters and Bishop O'Grady. There were many other jobs that took her out of the home, such as, cleaning Fort St John Lumber Company, (Canfor) offices, Forestry offices, the Don Titus School, as well as Chambermaid at the Court Motel, to name a few. She did whatever she had to do to help supplement the family income and make life easier for us all. She had many words of wisdom for us to draw from, including, "Hard work won't hurt you." In August of 2001, Henriette lost her husband, Louis, after 65 years of marriage. She had to adjust to life without him but was well cared for by her children who made sure she had all she needed and that she was never alone. In July of 2008, in a state of Dementia, Henriette went to live at Pouce Coupe Care Home and then later at Rotary Manor, in Dawson Creek. The staff at both facilities went to great efforts to make her feel safe and comfortable in her new surroundings. On August 19th, 2011, at the age of 96, Henriette went to be with her Husband, Mother and Father, Siblings, Son and our Lord. She lived a long life and touched many hearts along the way. Henriette will be sadly missed by her family and all those who knew her. Rest in peace Mom. Until we meet again. Eulogy Presented By Henriette's daughter; Aline Ethier A funeral mass was held on Friday, August 26, 2011 at 1:00 pm at Our Lady of Peace Catholic church in Chetwynd, B.C. Fr.
