Obituary of Lorraine Louise Martin

Mrs. Lorraine Louise Martin (nee Andre), a long time resident of Dawson Creek, B.C. passed away peacefully in the Rotary Manor on Thursday Oct. 20th, 2011 at the age of 94 years. Lorraine was born on October 12th 1917, in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan. Her early years were spent growing up on the farm with her 3 brothers. In 1935 she married Eugene Martin and they celebrated more than 56 years together as husband and wife. Initially they made their home in Saskatchewan where they raised 4 wonderful young boys while coalmining and farming. The next 21 years they moved many times from the peace country to Victoria, from Oh la la to Kamloops and back to Dawson Creek. Lorraine was always eager to undertake their next adventure. In 1978, Eugene and Lorraine moved to the Rotary Village in Dawson Creek where she lived for the next 30 years. She kept busy baking birthday cakes and putting on suppers for other seniors in the village. Whether knitting a pair of slippers, making a puzzle or roasting a turkey as a member of the Catholics Women League for over 68 years, she was never idle. Every spring she planted beautiful flowers that she handpicked and arranged perfectly. Anyone passing by would take time to admire the sea of colours. One of her fondest family traditions is the cheese picnic! Lorraine loved to invite family and friends over to their place to melt huge blocks of cheese against the face of a fire. This is a tradition she most wants her family to continue. The last few years Lorraine spent in the hospital and at Rotary Manor. Throughout this time Lorraine maintained her quick wit, unbelievable sense of humor and deep faith. Lorraine will be sadly missed by sons Andre, Louis (Barb), and Gene and lovingly remembered by 14 grandchildren: Yvette (Ed), Mary (Ken), Marilyn, Trish (Kevin), Barry (Nadine), Joanne, Stacey, Jeannette (Stephen), Shawn (Lisa), Debbie (Bob), Rachelle (Wes), Michelle, Leeanne (Barry) and Ian. She was also great grandmother to 33 smaller souls. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Eugene, son George, brothers Albert, George and Louis Andre, and great granddaughter Kylie Bain. A prayer service was held on Friday, October 28, 2011at 7:00 pm at Reynars Funeral Chapel. A Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, October 29,at 11:00 am at the Notre Dame Catholic Church, Dawson Creek Fr. Michael Anyasoro officiated.
