Obituary of Enola Laveck Harms
Enola Laveck Harms 1929 ~ 2012 Enola, age 82, cherished wife to the late Bud Laveck and Jack Harms. Loving mother to Judy(Mike), Garry(Donna), Christie(Howard), Ivy(Wayne), Shelly(Kelly), Kelli(Vince). Treasured grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 13 greatgrandchildren. Enola arrived in the Peace country in 1966 when she and Bud purchased property in Groundbirch BC. With kids in tow and a few charolais cattle they went to work building their dream. Enola loved to garden, tend to the cattle, and raise her family. She was very active in the community and built many friendships that would last her lifetime. With the loss of Bud in 1995 she moved from the ranch and continued building relationships closer to Dawson Creek. Becoming involved again in many activities, she found herself time and time again at the Seniors Hall spending time with her new friends. Enola was very active and she found that the hall had it all. She was very proud to be part of that family, volunteering to cook, get ready for events and welcome new members. It was here that she met and married Jack Harms. Time dealt Enola another blow in 2003, when Jack passed away on January 13th. Enola continued to spend a lot of time with her family. She watched them grow, graduate and marry. She was always overjoyed by their visits and loved the phone calls. Enola was diagnosed with Cancer in October 2007 and underwent surgery that same year. This was followed by radiation and chemotherapy of which zapped her of energy limiting her in her activities. Enola made the decision in August 2011 to discontinue any treatments as she said she wanted quality of life. Enola passed away in her home on January 25, 2012, with her family by her side. Enola left us with a special message that she wanted her family to share: To my family: thank you for always being there, in sickness and in health. To my friends: thank you for your friendship and best wishes throughout my life with you. When asked what word I would use to describe my life, I immediately thought, "rewarding". My life has been amazing! Bud was a wonderful husband, father and friend. He was a good provider for all of us, and a very hard worker who understood not only his family but the animals he tended with great care. I had 5 years alone and with the care, consideration and friendship of the seniors in Dawson Creek I was able to cope. I have been blessed with many friends among the people of Groundbirch, Dawson Creek and within the Evergreen Complex. Meeting Jack Harms was my salvation. We spent 2 years and a bit together. We were married for 11 days short of 2 years, when he passed away from cancer Jan 13, 2003. Our 2 years together was a great joy. We travelled, floor curled, danced, sang together, bowled and worked side by side until his illness overtook him. Time passed and I continued my many activities, cooking at the hall, cards with the girls ,trips with my family and many music festivals. While attending these activities at my second home(the senior hall) I was lucky enough to meet up with an old friend, Jim Lawrence. Jim hung in there while I learnt to golf, which we did as often as the weather permitted. We kept each other young while we attended family gatherings, music festivals, and dances. Again, thank you to my loving family and my dear friends. Enola was cremated and a Celebration of Life service was held Friday, February 3, 2012 at the South Peace Seniors Citizen's Hall, Dawson Creek, British Columbia.
