Obituary of Viola Atkinson

Viola Elizabeth Wallan was born on the farm at Goodfare, Alberta on June 11, 1934. She was the first of 6 children born to Adolf and Mary Wallan. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Allan, and her granddaughter Jessie Jean, as well as many other family members and close friends. Vi is survived by, her life partner Willy, Her Children; Terry (Faris), Roy (Jackie), Patsy (George) and Lorraine, her Nine Grandchildren and Ten Great Grandchildren. She married Allan Atkinson on December 24, 1950. They were married 41 years, until his passing on October 21, 1992. Through all her hardships and losses she was lucky enough to have 2 great loves in her life. The second being Willy. He came to live with her in the spring of 1997. They were like 2 peas in a pod, they were always so comfortable with each other and their love for each other was very warm & tender. Looking back over her life you would almost think there must have been two of her, because it is hard to believe the ground she covered, the work she did, and the people she touched. Viola worked very hard all of her life. She had many jobs. To mention a few, she owned and operated a restaurant, she was an enumerator, poll clerk, electoral agent, court clerk, jail matron, all while driving school bus for over 30 years. She also managed and maintained the farm while her husband Allan was away at work, which included milking cows, haying, raising a garden, and every type of fowl and livestock she could manage, all while caring for her children and others. She had her hand in so many things. She was a very social person, and loved to curl, which was one of the few treats she allowed herself. She had a great love of community that spread from Halcourt to Hythe. She volunteered for rural crime watch, but her most rewarding and closest to her heart was the Goodfare Hall. To the people that worked very closely with her, helping her wishes and visions become reality, "we thank you." She felt very close to her "crew" because of your dependability and your respect for her.
