Obituary of Wayne Brown

Wayne William Brown, better known as Bill was born on October 15th, 1934 in Dawson Creek to parents Wayne and Zella Brown. Bill was the third child and first son in a family of six. Bill lived his whole life in Dawson Creek and he grew up in the 'west end' of Dawson Creek surrounded by many neighborhood friends who have remained friends forever. As a youngster his favorite time was going camping with his family and usually several of the neighborhood friends. In the 1940's his Dad discovered a haven for camping and fishing at what is now known as Hasler Flats, where the Hasler Creek meets the Pine River. The family camped there for several years and in the early 50's they built a cabin along with a few other families. This became the favorite place to go right up until the present time. The family would also head to areas in Alberta through the Jasper and Banff parks and meet up with other aunts and uncles and the grandparents and camp all through that area and southern B.C. Bill grew up to always enjoy camping, hunting and fishing - although he may not have been the most patient fisherman. In his teenage years Bill was a member of the Mile Zero Squadron #353 Royal Canadian Air Cadets and attended many camps with them. From that experience he always had a desire to get his pilot's license and in the early sixties he saw that dream come true when he took pilot training from Vic Turner at the Dawson Creek airport. For many years he kept up his pilot license even though he didn't use it often. Over the years Bill worked in the oil patch, pipelines, the WAC Bennett Dam and other construction jobs. He was a member of the Construction union #1611. Even when times were tough he always had a job and provided for his family. In 1967 Bill met Nina Briault (nee Skoworodko) and they were married on September 15th, 1969. To this union two sons were born - Wayne William Jr. and Kenneth Dean who joined Nina's son Perry to complete the family. One of the greatest joys in Bill's life were his grandchildren Courtney, Tiana and Landen. He enjoyed spending time with them. Bill passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2012 in Dawson Creek, at the age of 77 years.
