Obituary of Mary Margaret Kobliuk
We are sad to announce the passing of Mary Margaret Kobliuk (nee Short) on May 20, 2012 after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
She leaves behind her husband of 47 years Henry Kobliuk, three children Michael Lawrence (Vancouver), Suzanne Kobliuk (Prince George) and Andrea Martin (Grande Prairie) as well as three grandchildren Madeline Bosiak (Prince George), Attilio & Emma Lee Ravenello (Grande Prairie).
Mary was born in Dawson Creek on April 26, 1944 at St Joseph's Hospital to Mary Hall. Soon thereafter she was adopted by and was the only child of Guy & Betty Short (deceased). Mary grew up and went to school in Dawson Creek and eventually went to work for Lakeview Credit Union. She married Henry in January of 1965 and they raised their 3 children. Mary and Henry re-located to Mackenzie for a number of years but always kept close ties with their long time friends and family back in Dawson Creek. After the passing of Mary's mother in 1988 they returned to Dawson Creek where Mary was quite eager to renew ties with some old friends and quickly established herself back into her home community.
After spending a few years looking after her widowed father and working part time she finally took a position with Stats Canada as an interviewer, a job that she loved. Mary was always an outgoing friendly person who loved to interact with people in the community so this new career was a natural fit. Many folks around town, I am sure, will remember her calling on them.
Mary also loved to volunteer at the gymkhana events held around the Peace River country. She will be remembered as the lady who timed the events out in Bessborough.
She also loved a good country dance. She and Henry would often be seen out at Doe River Hall or Bessborough two stepping until they closed the hall down.
The world has lost a lovely, gentle, kind, generous and compassionate mother . . . grandmother . . . friend . . . spouse. Mary was dearly loved by many people and she will remain alive and lovingly remembered by everyone she knew.
Mary had requested that there be no funeral service held for her, the family held a small gathering of friends and family at the Centennial Manor Social Room. In lieu of cards and flowers, they have requested donations be made to the Diabetes Association and Canadian Cancer Society.
Very Respectfully Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium
