Obituary of Frances Cecil Schreiber

Frances (Frankie) Cecil Schreiber was born on May 20, 1940 to Frank and Irene Madden in Dawson Creek, BC. She was welcomed by her sisters Billie, Yuvonne and Blondie. Four years later the family was blessed with a son, Roderick. The family moved from East Pine to Groundbirch when Frankie was three, where she was educated at Groundbirch School. In her senior school years she would come to school early to start the woodstove so the little school house would be warm for the younger children. Upon leaving school, Frankie worked at the store in Progress and up the Alaska Highway at the store in Wonowon. She grew up doing farm chores, playing with her best friend Roddy, loving the horses and hating the geese. She loved Groundbirch sports days and the dances in the evenings. It was at one of these dances that she first met Ray Schreiber; a handsome young baseball player from Frenchman Butte, Saskatchewan. Frankie went home that night and learned how to polka in case Ray had asked her to dance, and he did. They danced, and danced and they fell in love. They were married on December 13, 1958 in Dawson Creek. In 1959, the twins Cindy and Sandra were born. Fourteen months later another girl, Donna was born. In 1961, Penny made number four. In 1964, another set of twins were born Trudy and Terry and In 1969, Becky was born. The little girls would watch their mom dress up in her swirly dresses with crinolines and her bright red lipstick, and her big smile because she was going dancing with her handsome Saskatchewan baseball player. Horses, were also a big part of Frankie's life. Frankie and Ray were active in Gymkhana since the club's beginning's in 1969. She served in all levels of the club, up to being President for a number of years. Most notably for the kids, she was the announcer and would encourage many young riders and those stubborn little ponies all the way around the events. Frankie was also instrumental in the construction of the PVEP Arena. Frankie's favourite times were family gatherings, Christmas dinners, and campfires when all her girls and their families would gather. She also had a great passion for flowers. Frankie watched faithfully every spring for lilies and pansies to show up and fought with rocky ground to get the new flowers to grow. They always did, but never quite fast enough. Every spring there would be a tiny bouquet of crocuses on the table, she would tell us that her sweetheart had climbed the hill at the farm for her. Frankie will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. Frankie is survived by her loving Husband of 53 years; Ray, Daughters; Cindy (Russ), Sandra (Joe), Donna (Mel), Penny (Terry), Trudy (Drew), Terry (Stephen) and Becky, Grandchildren; Carmen (Aaron), Stacey, Tasha, Nicole, Brad, Meagan (Gunner), Raymond, Jared, Scott, Taylor, Charmaine, Dallas, Great-grandchildren; Chelise, Brady, Paige, Chase, Chase and Bristol, Sisters; Billie, Blondie, and numerous sister and brother in laws, nieces, nephews, and by many of you who have touched her heart.
