Obituary of Robert Stuart Trail
Robert Stuart Trail was born December 3, 1929 in Pouce Coupe, BC, to loving parents Archie and Gladys Trail. He grew up in the Pouce Coupe area.
Dad was very active in Air Cadets and eventually obtained his private Pilots License as an eighteen year old, which began a life-long love of flying . Dad met Leona Mabel Dalke, [Mom as we affectionately call her], fell in love and they were married in 1950. then it was time for his first plane, a Stinson, he was very excited, so excited in fact that he forgot to tell mom about it In the late 1950's, Dad started into the Real Estate business with the opening of Trail Realty And then the kids started showing up, first of which was Penny Lynne, on April 7, 1952, then Susan Cheryl on June 14, 1954, and then Yours Truly, Mark Gregory on July 27,1955. A little mistake that worked out just fine.
Dad decided to run for Mayor in 1967, won, and , that pretty well stopped the flying for awhile as he was too busy with being Mayor and running Trail Realty to do much of it. He was Mr. Dawson Creek, it was his life and.. as most politicians will tell you, he didn't ever like the way the last mayor was running the place! He was Mayor from 1967 to 1975 the first time, then decided to step down and return to business life for awhile but that didn't last long as he wasn't too impressed with the Mayor situation at the time and ran again in 1981,won and served several terms until 1993. He was Mr. Dawson Creek!
After politics, Mom and Dad had much more time to travel, bought a Ford pickup and Camper and did a lot of camping with their good friends Marian and Con Hackworth. Over the next several years they hit many camping spots in BC and Alberta. One trip they really enjoyed was travelling to the Maritimes with Marg and Bill Girdwood and seeing Halifax and crossing the Confederation Bridge to PEI.
Dad was passionate about his family, flying and Dawson Creek. He was Mr. Dawson Creek
