Obituary of Hilda Shevkenek Neudorf

Hilda was born on February 3, 1937 in Rolla, BC. She lived on a homestead with her siblings: Arnold, Ernie, Sharon, Edith and Vera. Hilda attended both Bear Canyon and Cherry Point Schools obtaining her grade twelve equivalency. Hilda was working for Steve Shevkenek in his Grocers store when she met his brother, Metro and the romance blossomed. Hilda married Metro Shevkenek on July 2, 1956 and they raised a family: Rob, Rick, Jane and Darlene. She loved to cook, sew and would make clothes for all the family. Fulfilling the role of wife and mother was interrupted in 1972 when Metro had a stroke. Hilda stepped up to the plate to provide and care for the family. This is what made her the independent, strong willed woman that she was. She could and had to make some hard decisions and live with them. Hilda worked in a number of stores, Chetwynd Hotel and then at the hospitals in Chetwynd and Fort St John where she retired from in 1999. Hilda pursued other interests but remained the caring compassionate lady getting involved in home care, palliative care, housekeeping. Hilda was a women of faith, attempting to teach her kids right from wrong. She loved to keep busy but sometimes needed and enjoyed the opportunity for solace and the peace of sitting or going for a walk by a stream, river, lake or in the forest. As the kids grew up, grandchildren came along, to her great delight. She was in her glory when surrounded by her family and friends, she was a real people person, and loved to entertain and cook. In 2006 she welcomed the opportunity for some companionship and to extend her family and married John Neudorf on June 10, 2006. She moved out to the farm which she always wanted and enjoyed the aspects of farm life. However, she was diagnosed with having cancer and bravely battled it for the next six years. It took its toll on her, God took another angel to heaven and released her from her pain and suffering. Hilda passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2012 in Fort St. John, B.C.
