Obituary of Stuart Eldon Laws

Stu was born June 20, 1922 in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan to Elsie Florence (nee: Duffet) and Gerald Laws. He had two brothers and one sister and grew up in the English countryside after moving there at age twelve. Stu served in the British "Home Guard" for 1 years before joining the Royal Air Force during WW2 at age seventeen. He was a tradesman and could not be a pilot as he was colorblind. Stu believed this saved his life. After 3 years of service, the war ended and Stu returned to Canada. He became a carpenter, a travelling salesman for prepackaged homes and he also worked as a building inspector. In August 1955, Stu married Jean Magdalena Geuder in Edmonton, Alberta. Jean found him to be kind, generous, and respectful: a real English gentleman. In Edmonton on May 1956, Mark Eldon was born. They moved to Calgary where Richard Fredrick was born July 1958 and Stuart Alan in September 1963. Stu loved the Chetwynd area and moved his family there in the early 60's. He did construction on both hydro dams, on local mines and gas plants and participated in constructing many of the significant buildings in Chetwynd. One of Stu's greatest joys was his country home where he and Jean raised their boys. Stu spent many happy hours with his farm animals, sheepdogs and down at "the farm", his land along the Pine River, where the crops of oats and hay were. Between 1984 and 1999, Stu's family grew by the addition of six much loved grandchildren: Sarah, Christopher, Naiomi, Aaron, Benjamin and Bethany. In November 2006, Stu's great granddaughter, Kaelyn was born. She could light up his day like no other! Stu unexpectedly lost his beloved wife Jean in December 2008. Shortly after, he went to Grande Prairie to live with family who then moved to Osoyoos, BC in September 2011. Being naturally observant, Stu always enjoyed a drive, seeing fields, bales, trees, animals and especially border collies. On Thursday, August 2, 2012, Stu peacefully passed to his rest in Osoyoos, BC at the age of 90 with family at his side. A memorial service was held in Chetwynd on October 1, 2012 at the Peace Christian School/Seventh Day Adventist church. Pastor Lew Wiegel officiated. Special memories of Stu were presented by Jim Nichols. Interment followed in the Tuscoola Mountain Cemetery, Chetwynd, BC. Stu was predeceased by his brothers; Alan and Bill, wife; Jean, and his grandson; Aaron. Stu is survived by his sister; Joy (Ed), sons; Mark Laws (Teresa), Rick Laws, Alan Laws (Anneli), grandchildren; Sarah (Thomas), Christopher, Naiomi (Joshua), Benjamin and Bethany, great grandchild; Kaelyn, and many loving relatives that knew him as Stu or Uncle Stu.
