Obituary of Leslie Gordon Guillet
Leslie was born on October 8, 1947, in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan. He passed away on October 28, 2012 in Fort St. John, B.C. at the age of 65 years. He is survived by his mother, three children, five grandchildren, six brothers, and four sisters.
When Les was five years old he came down with Spinal Meningitis. Mom remembers what a scary time that was especially back in those days. He survived though, and to give you an idea of his spunky attitude even at that age, the nurse came into his room and asked if he wanted anything and he said, "Ya, I want you to go out and shut the light".
The Family started moving west in 1954 to Alberta and later settled in Chetwynd in 1958.
Les worked in Chetwynd at various small mills and cooked in a logging camp, later moving to Edmonton, Alberta. He was employed at NADP and then Nelson Lumber, when he met Wynnie Bibaud. They were then married on December 30, 1972. Their first son Mac was born in Edmonton on August 25, 1974, where Les was working at Vipond Automatic Sprinklers as a pipe fitter. The family moved to Taylor, BC in 1976 where Les was employed with Peace Wood Products. Their second son Michael was born on September 25, 1977 and their daughter, Jeannie, Born on March 23, 1983, both in Fort St. John. Les and Wynnie later purchased a home in Lebel Sub., where Les was active in the community and put in many hours of volunteer work helping build the community rink and park. Les and Wynnie later separated.
Les had a special place in his heart for stray animals, taking many into his home over the years. He was also always ready to make his home available to anyone who was in need of a place to stay. He had a very kind heart and generous nature. Les continued to work at Peace Wood Products until the company closed in 2002.
He semi-retired, but he continued to work part time at Fibrico for a couple of years.
Les was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to quad, ski-doo, hunt, and fish. Throughout the years he spend a lot of time with his dad and brothers out at Redfern, Trimble Lake, and Nevis Creek, as well as many other areas. He was a great cook and on these trips he was pretty much always the designated camp cook. He was also a good sport, which made him the target of many pranks.
Les loved to play guitar, sing, and dance. He loved to jive and two-step. Boot Scootin' Boogie was one of his favorite songs. He also loved Hank Williams Sr., Merle Haggard, Charlie Pride, and many more. He sang 'em all. Les spent many hours down at the market garden with his buddies. If you wanted to visit him, that would be the first place you would look. He was well liked by his co-workers and loved by his family and friends.
We are going to miss you Les! we love you!!
