Obituary of Lydia Kropp
Lydia was born on October 30, 1929, in Rosemary, Alberta. She was the third child in a family of nine. She met John in Abbotsford, BC and they were married on July 20, 1951.
Lydia and John started out married life living with John's parents. Shortly after that, they built their first real home. This was to become a long habit of theirs - building houses, and moving constantly.
Their first son, Marvin, was born in 1952, Shirley followed shortly after in 1954, then in April of 1958, Dennis was born, and in July of 1963 Debbie was born.
When Debbie started school, Lydia went to work at Pouce Hospital as a Housekeeper. Lydia worked full-time as well as doing all her own baking, canning, cooking and gardening. She was in charge of the kids, making sure they all did their chores.
The family moved into Dawson Creek and by the spring of 1974 they built their first house in town. Between the years of 1974 and 1981 they built 5 more houses! And lived in each one!
In 1985, Lydia and John bought 5 acres close to Marv and Pat's, and Dennis and Dale's. The grandchildren sure enjoyed running up and down that road to visit and get some of Grandma's great treats.
Lydia and John loved to travel. One of their longtime dreams was to travel all the way across Canada. Both Lydia and John loved to serve, they spent one Missions Trip in Mexico and another longer Missions Trip in Hawaii.
Camping was another regular event for Lydia and John. They travelled all over camping, with family and friends.
A large part of Lydia's life was about her relationship with God. She became a Christian at the age of 18. She was always involved in church life - teaching Sunday School and leading Bible Studies. The impact on Lydia's family though, has been the largest ministry of her life. She was always happiest having her family around.
Lydia, a long time resident of Dawson Creek, B.C. passed away on Monday, November 12, 2012 in Dawson Creek, at the age of 83 years.
A funeral service was held on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Alliance Church. Pastor Michael Benty officiated. Interment followed in the Brookside Cemetery, Dawson Creek, B.C.
