Obituary of Hans Henrik Sorensen

Hans Sorensen....father , grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend to many, will always be remembered . Hans was the first born to Alfhild and Henry in Selbu Norway, Feb 8, 1938, and would soon after join forces with his younger brother Birger. Sadly, in these early years, during the German invasion on Norway, the boys and their mother would lose their father and loved one. Hans continued to live with his mother and brother. Alfhild would go on to re marry, and he and his brother Birger would also be blessed with another brother, and 2 sisters, Alf, Ada, and Grete. Hans would eventually move on to live with his aunt and uncle who owned a fleet of trucks, and needed the help to run the company. It was early in his life that Hans developed a true love and compassion for trucks, cars, and the open highway. At a very young age, Hans was married to his first wife Solveig and they were blessed with their first child, a girl named Randi. Hans in his early 20's would make his first long journey out of Norway and into Canada. It was his dream to be a pilot, and early on, it was discovered that a small vision issue, would not allow that to happen. His dream was crushed. It was shortly after that Hans would start his new career driving for the Greyhound Bus company, and so began the many thousands of miles that Hans would leave behind him on the highways between Edmonton, Calgary, and the entire Peace River district. Around that same time, he met Winnie, and they were united . Very shortly after, the 2 greeted yet another baby girl, Monica into the world. Those years together were brief, and eventually would lead him to meeting Joanne, his second wife, and they would have a little girl, Sonya. Hans had 3 loves in his life, with each of whom had a baby girl, something he'd always say that he wanted, 3 girls! As fate would have it, Hans ended up on his own, and with the best of intentions, set out and raised his youngest daughter Sonya, playing the always challenging role of the single dad. Eventually, Hans switched careers and began driving the big 18 wheel, and lived much of his life on the highway. Much time was spent in the Great white north driving in and out of Ft. Nelson and Whitehorse. Hans eventually settled in Dawson Creek, and remained living there with Sonya in tow. For those who knew him, would say, there was no shortage of laughter in his presence. He was always the entertainer, zinging you with his one liners, and his jokes. A great sense of humour, and a sweet gentle nature to most. But that didn't stop his innate desire for disturbing the peace. If he could rustle up some controversy, he would do so with passion, and always get the last laugh in the end. In his early years, Hans was known to be quite the "ladies man", with his chiseled features, and thirst for socializing. He always loved a good party. However, later in life, this would all change. Hans would become a very private man, who would go on to spend many years living on his own very far from people, the city, and closer to the wild life that would take residence outside his front door. His focus became more on his daughter Sonya, who over the years had become his rock, his grandaughter Tonya, with whom he became a father figure, friend and mentor. Hans welcomed his great grand son Tavyn into his world with open arms and a huge smile every time he saw him. Tavyn gave him such joy. Hans was very fortunate to have such a close relationship with this part of his family. Eventually Hans was able to spend some time whenever possible with his middle daughter Monica, and his 2 grand daughters Cydoney and Maggie. There were a couple of re unions with his eldest daughter Randi who travelled from Norway. It was never made possible to meet his grandchildren in Norway, Silje, Morton, and Havard, and great grand child .... This was unfortunate, as it was always his dream to return to Norway. He knew exactly what he liked and disliked in people and music .You always knew where you stood with him, and he never met a trucking song he didn't like. Hans was crazy for Red Sovine, and Gene Tracey, who sang about life on the road, and truck drivers with an offbeat sense of humour, and a dash of melancholy. Hans cared deeply for his family, and we all will miss his daily weather reports and how to dress appropriately for cold weather. regardless of your age. It is the family's mission now to return Hans to Norway to be with his mother and father again. His memory will remain in our hearts always, and he will be dearly missed by us all. May you rest in Peace Hans....We love you dearly. Memories Presented By Han's Daughter; Monica. Very Respectfully Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium
