Obituary of Victor Bud Peterson

On April 11, 1930, in Grangeville Idaho Leonard and Myrtle Peterson gave birth to a baby boy, Victor Bud. He was the youngest of nine children. He grew up in rural Idaho, near Whitebird and at the age of 20 or 21 he and his brother John decided to take a trip north to Alaska. He fell in love with the north-country and eventually moved to Fort Fraser, BC. It was there he met Anna, the love of his life. They were married for 58 years and together they had five children, eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. This made for many a noisy get-together at holiday times with kids running everywhere and Bud loved every minute of it! Bud and Anna moved to the Peace Country in 1963 briefly making their home in Dawson Creek before settling in the Kiskatinaw area. For many years he sawmilled, farmed and ranched. Bud was a visionary, always looking ahead. He was the first farmer in the Peace country to seed trifoil as feed for his cattle; many people thought it wasn't a good idea, but it turned out to be very successful! Bud loved the outdoors; he spent many hours hunting and fishing and he always came home with a buck from the 'old buck pasture'. As the years went by he made many fishing trips and usually out-fished everyone (except for his great grandson!) Once retired, Bud took Anna on their first real holiday to see his home town. Since that trip they went south to Arizona every winter spending time with family and friends until his health failed. He loved to drive and always wanted to see what was around the next bend. Bud loved to see things grow so when he was no longer planting crops, he took up gardening with Anna. They grew enough vegetables for the whole family and then some! Bud was taken from us suddenly on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at the age of 82 years. Bud's family celebrated his memory on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Dawson Creek Community Church, Pastors David & Phyllis Roch officiated. Interment will be at a later date. He will be greatly missed by Anna, his children: Ron Peterson (Bonny), Vicki Peterson, Howard Peterson (Christie), Leanne Bates (Terry), Dawn Unruh (Seymour), all the grand and great-grand kids, and his one remaining brother, John. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Bud to the Dawson Creek & District Hospital Foundation 11100-13th Street, Dawson Creek ,B.C. V1G 3W8.
