Obituary of ALICE MARIE SEKYER

ALICE MARIE SEKYER Alice Marie Sekyer, passed away suddenly on February 16, 2013. She was 70 years old. Alice was born in Hamilton, Ontario on March 29, 1942. She was the 1st of 4 children to Gerry and Mary Gagne. When Alice was very young, she lived with her mother and brother Marcel born in 1943 at her Uncle Albert Caron's home, while her Father came out west to work. The family later followed by train, where they met up with Dad and lived in Mayo, Yukon. Alice attended grade 1 and 2 in Mayo. The familythen moved to Dawson Creek. This is where the family was completed with sister Annette in 1950 and brother Geno in 1959. Alice went to school in Dawson Creek and attended Business College at the Notre Dame School in Dawson Creek. Alice met Sid Sekyer and they were married on May 14, 1960. Their first child Darrel was born September 1962, Dan was second on March 1964, and a third boy Kevin completed the family on Alice's Birthday in March 1966. As a young girl Alice worked at the movie theatre. After college she worked in the office at Northwest Wood Preservers, Borek Construction, and retired from the Co-op around 2002. In her younger years, Alice loved to spend time camping and fishing in the Pine Pass with her family, " even climbing Mt. Lemoray", with her brother Marcel. She also loved to play bingo and keno with family and friends. Alice was fun to be around and always had a smile for you! All who knew her will have her cute little giggle etched in their minds. Her witty sense of humour will be greatly missed. Alice was a very devout Catholic and attended church every weekend. Although never being blessed with grandchildren, she had 1 great-nephew and 5 great-nieces, whom she loved to watch grow. Alice was predeceased by her parents, Gerry and Mary (Lefavaire) Gagne, her husband Sid Sekyer, her sister Annette Schmidt, and her brother Marcel Gagne. She will be remembered always and sadly missed by her 3 sons: Darrel (Debbie), Dan, and Kevin, her brother Geno (Tammy), her brother-in-law Harry Schmidt (Ute), nieces: Debbie, Diane, and Donna, great-nephew Johnny, and great-nieces: Sara, Rena, Emma, Sophia, and Freya. Funeral Services for Alice were held on February 21, 2013 (2:00 pm) at the Notre Dame Catholic Church, with Father Michael Anyasoro in Dawson Creek. Interment followed at the Dawson Creek Cemetery, where she was laid to rest beside her husband Sid.
