Obituary of Glen Stanley Landry

Glen Stanley Landry 1938 ~ 2013 Glen Stanley Landry who was born in Dawson Creek, December 9, 1938 the first son of S.W. (Punch) Landry and Susan (nee Neufeld), passed away suddenly on March 22, 2013 at the Dawson Creek Hospital. Survived by his mother Susan, sons Scott (Jessica) and Jason (Carol), the boys' mother Emily, grandchildren Katlin, Connor, and Glen's brothers Dave and Guy. From the time he was a small boy playing with his tractors in the sand pile, Glen had a singular vision of what he wanted to do with his life, and that was to farm. I've never known anyone as comfortable and assured about who he was - the grandson of one of the early farm settlers in the area, a grain farmer himself, and a naturally gifted mechanic. He was supremely "at home" on the land - the land he share cropped with his step-grandfather, and additional quarters purchased along the way. Throughout his life he built a full and very in-depth knowledge of his soils, the terrain, and the interactions between weather and seed. He wasn't a fan of fertilizers, and only used herbicides sparingly, even before he took steps to certify his farm organic'. He was a truly wise and gentle soul, a quiet man, and a loving father and stepfather; he showed that love through actions rather than words most often. I know Scott and Jason have many happy memories of their boyhood on the farm, many of which centre around go-carts and old cars made safe, and kept running, by Glen, for the amusement and training of them and their friends. The example he set for them included: honesty, kindness, inventiveness, and perseverance in their dealings with people and with the job and hand. Through the tough times he endured, and in the good times, he invested toward the future. Ultimately, he stayed "on the farm" until his final day on this earth . . . What a fitting closure to the life of someone so committed and close to his land. Cremation will be done by Bergeron Funeral Services, with a service to be held there at a date to be announced later. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dawson Creek Hospital Auxiliary or the S.P.C.A.
