Obituary of Jack Marvin Petersen

Marvin was born on March 17, 1930 in Olds, Alberta. He was the oldest of three children having one brother and one sister. He took most of his schooling at Garnet, AB. After attending Olds College taking agricultural farming, and graduating in 1951, Marvin farmed with his dad and brother. He met Doreen McArthur in 1958 and life was never the same. They were married in 1959 and homesteaded in the Peace Country in 1963. Three children: Marlene, Connie, and Mark arrived and after a few years of travelling between Olds and Silver Valley Alberta, the Petersen's were here to stay. Marvin started driving school bus in 1973 and continued to do so for twenty two years. He enjoyed the kids on the bus. Marvin farmed and raised cattle for many years. He was a member of the Ag Society, REA and the Recplex which provided much enjoyment over the years. Marvin was a big fan of hockey and played on the Old Timers Hockey team, his jersey had "Speedy" on it. Marvin had a great sense of humor, and enjoyed visiting with his family and friends. Marvin will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. Marvin passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 in Spirit River, Alberta, at the age of 83 years. A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 2:00 pm Alberta time, at the Savanna Recreation Centre. Pastor, Floyd Anderson officiated. Interment followed in the Alexview Cemetery, Silver Valley, Alberta. Marvin was predeceased by his parents; John and Sophia, and brother; Boyd. Marvin is survived by his loving wife; Doreen, daughters; Marlene (Dale) Goodvin of Wanham, AB, Connie (Terry) Donavon of Trure, N.S., son; Mark of Silver Valley, AB, grandchildren; Tamera, Michael, Charlene, Bryanna and boyfriend Morgan, three great grandchildren, sister; May (Roy) Fisher of Valleyview, AB, sister-In-Law; Gail Petersen of Olds, AB, brother-in-laws; Doug (Betty) McArthur of Carstairs, Gale (Cathy) Haley of Cremona, AB, nieces, nephews, and many special friends. Special memories of Marvin presented by Brian Fjeseth.
