Obituary of Wilfred George Davis

George Davis was born in 1932 to Phillip and Madeline Davis in Moberly Lake. From an early age George was out on the land hunting and trapping to contribute his part to the growing Davis family. George spent his earlier years working in the many small portable saw mills that dotted the landscape. Work was also supplemented with time spent working in the fields for many of the farmers in the Peace Region. But as always George would turn back to the land which at that time supported the fur industry. George had also worked on pack trains and for Guide outfitters. While working at one of the little mills George met a championship boxer from the U.S. who agreed to teach him boxing. Through sparring and training George came away with boxing skills that are still talked about today. George was also a bare back bronc rider that could spur and ride with the best of them winning some events. One of the many passions in life for George was music. He loved to play his fiddle, sing, jig and could dance with the best of them. In 1958 while at a Rodeo dance in Teepee creek and dancing in a jigging contest he met Janet Campbell. George once said, I asked her for a dance and she never let go of my arm for the rest of the night. The two were married the following spring in Kelly Lake. George and Janet would spend late summer and fall in the mountains guiding then would go out to the trap line on snowshoes for the winter. They were well known throughout the guide outfitting industry and would work together until the grueling pace began to take a toll on Janet in her later years. Along with all of this came his love for his family. He loved all his brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews with a passion. Each and every one of them had a special place in his heart.
