Obituary of Joyce MacLeod

Joyce was born in Atlin, B.C. on December 31, 1937 to parents Fred and Gwen Leppard. She had six sisters; Doris, Hazel, Judy, Betty and Evelyn and one brother Jim. Joyce worked as a waitress and support staff at a hospital. It was while waitressing she met her first husband Dan Roth and they were married in 1957. They lived in Fort Nelson, Fort St. John, Edmonton and moved to Dawson Creek in 1958. Joyce and Dan had four children; Gwen was born in 1958 but tragically passed away within her first year of life, Shane was born in 1958, Donna in 1960 and Shaun was born in 1965. Her children believe she was the best mother ever, she loved them unconditionally and would do anything for them. Although they were not rich, they never went without. Joyce's house was always spotless, she scrubbed floors on her hands and knees to make old lino shine. Joyce had a great passion for baking, she always had fresh cinnamon buns and she decorated beautiful wedding cakes. The family loved to hunt and fish. Joyce would have everything packed and ready to go, they would hook up the boat, load up the kids. They spent many happy weekends camping and fishing. Dan passed away in 1971 and Joyce did her best to support her family. Joyce crotched doiles and dresses for dolls, the kids remember selling them to make spending money. Joyce worked for her sister Hazel Marcel at the Grandview Store and for 15 years she managed McGavins Bread Basket. In 1977 Joyce met Dale MacLeod and they were married in 1979. Dale worked at Northern Lights College as an instructor and was a professional chef. They were inseparable and Dale loved her children as if they were his own. Joyce and Dale loved to travel and would go and spend time with the children and grandchildren. They loved to camp and fish. Sadly, Dale passed away in 2006. Joyce was loved and will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Joyce MacLeod, a long time resident of Dawson Creek, B.C. passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2013 in Dawson Creek surrounded by her family at the age of 75 years.
