Obituary of Edith May Girard

Edith May Girard 1948 - 2013 To many she was known as Edith, to her grandkids.Peach. Edith was born on October 21st, 1948 and raised in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. She passed away on Sunday December 29th, 2013 at the age of 65 in her home with her family by her side. She was an only child, raised by her father Albert Thornhill and her mother Gezina (Nuninga) Thornhill. Edith had no need for airs and graces, what you saw is was what you got, and what you got was a big warm smile, genuine person full of love. She loved visitors and hospitality was her God given gift. No matter when, no matter what time of the day, she was always open to a visit, and you were always met with a giant smile. Her house always open, she was always up to visiting friends and even a few strangers along the way. Her smile was contagious, and even though her health confined her to her chair, even though every breath was a struggle, she was an encourager and was open to lift up the spirits of all who came to see her. There was no bigger role model for perseverance her family has ever known. She had strong principles that she believed in and lived by, but she was never judgemental and loved people for what they were. She was slow to anger and quick to understand, teaching us that loving people was more important than our hang ups. She was capable of both delivering and experiencing immense joy, and served as both our light and our glue. She gloried in her family and friends. She deserved more peace and happiness - and less difficulty - than was afforded to her over the years. She was our mother, wife and grandmother and in her role she did everything she was supposed to do and more - she took care of us when we were sick, celebrated our victories, comforted us in defeat. She was a wife to Aime, and they stayed close to each other for 43 years. They gave birth to two children Lisa and Neil and although life did not afford monetary riches, they grew a strong marriage and provided for their children. Edith's daughter Lisa married, Richard and Edith became a grandmother to, James, Aimee, Jeremy and Jonathan. Edith's son Neil would marry Melinda and they would go on to provide two more grandchildren for Edith, Layton and Allison. Her grandchildren were a huge part of her life, and for the grandkids, having a sleepover at Grandma's was always a treat..even if it meant watching countless hours of the news. Thank you to all who supported our family at this time, may it please the Lord to extend His blessing to each and everyone. A funeral service was held on January 7, 2014 at 1:00pm at the Dawson Creek Alliance Church in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. Dr. Michael Stark officiated. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Edith may be made by way of donation to the British Columbia Lung Association 2675 Oak Street, Vancouver, British Columbia V6H 2K2. Arrangements were entrusted to Bergeron Funeral Services & Crematorium Ltd.
