Obituary of Donna Jean Martin
Donna Jean Martin, a long time resident of Chetwynd, B.C. passed away peacefully on March 10, 2014 at the Chetwynd General Hospital after a long fight with cancer at the age of 55 years.
Donna was born on February 3, 1959 in Flin Flon, Manitoba to parents Don and Velma Martin. She attended school in Merit. Donna was the first born and looked after her siblings a lot, she had a knack of getting into trouble but not getting caught.
Donna had a love for all animals and a love of people. She made friends wherever she went. Donna had a fear of spiders and would always get something else to get rid of them. She was always right, and arguing never helped.
She opened The Little Prairie Metis Society in Chetwynd and was always working with the public.
Donna loved raising her horses and showing dogs. She loved to draw pictures and was always writing something. She belonged to the American Quarter Horse Association, the American Kennel Club and the American Paint Horse Association all her life.
Donna was predeceased by her father Don Martin, brother Dean Martin and lifelong friend Mike Sawchuk.
Donna leaves behind her husband Carl Koecher, his son Adam (Jayleen) and son Jesse, Carl's daughter Carlyn (Frank) and their son Forrest Lorrain, her mother Velma Martin, her children; Davey (Florence) Sawchuk, Dawny (Chris) Smith, Jonathon (Joy) Sawchuk, their son Mikey, Annette (Lionel) Fleury, and their children: Dwayne, Nicole, Laurie and Kyle and great grandchild Avery, Pearl (John), along with Donna's brother Dennis (Julie) Martin, sisters; Denise (Aaron) Bozarth, Wendy Martin and Deana (Warren) Disher, and her adopted Wayward children; Lorene Charlton (Ross DeHart) and their child Taylor, Coby (Rick) and their children Kaylin and Saleen, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and many friends.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Chetwynd Fellowship Baptist Church. Pastor Bill Evans will officiate. Interment will be at a later date.
