Obituary of Robert William Giles
Robert (Bob) Giles, a resident of Tumbler Ridge, B.C. passed away on Friday, August 1, 2014 in Dawson Creek, B.C. at the age of 76 years.
Bob was born on January 21, 1938, to Hayward and Elizabeth Giles, in Pellys Island, Newfoundland. He was the first son and second born with six siblings. Bob was working in the logging industry when met Christina and the two were married on October 21, 1963. They had three children together.
Bob worked hard, sometimes away from home, but always provided and gave his family love the best way he knew. He enjoyed boating, mussel picking, fishing, camping, ski-dooing and rabbit catching and made the most of the time he had with his family. Bob enjoyed to tinker with things and if anything was broken he would try and fix it or turn it into something else. He was the master fabricator of whatever he could find.
In the mid 80s, due to shortage of work, Bob made his way to Tumbler Ridge and got a job at Quintette Mine where he worked until he retired in 1999. He was a carpenter and built the tripods and signs for the company. Bob's shack was a well known place to grab a coffee and a smoke. It was a place where he told a lot of his stories and might have been known to stretch the truth a bit. When Bob retired, him and Christina went back to Newfoundland for a few months but they missed their children and grandchildren too much so they made their way back to Tumbler Ridge.
