Story #2. Entrepreneur-in-Residence
The Clas of OAC 58 was proud of Mac and Mac was proud of OAC 58. When we graduated in 1958, our career options were teaching, government or return-to-the-farm. To be an entrepreneur and start your own business was unheard-of. As a 25th Anniversary project, the Class of OAC 58 sponsosred a series of Entrepreneurs-in-Residence at the University of Guelph. At that time, the idea of teaching entrepreneurship was novel at universities, so this project put Guelph ahead-of- the-curve. Now, classes in entrepreneurship are standard fare at most Universities. To our collective delight, Mac Taylor agreed to be an Entrepreneur-in-Rresidence. That was a game-changer for many students.

Story #1. Branding the Peace
One of my fond memmories of Mac was his call for assistance to Brand the Peace. That called for a team response including Drew Mitchell, Ginty Jocius and Clay Switzer and a couple of visits to Dawson Creek when I enjoyed the hosp;atility of Jayne and Mac. The classmate connections really worked for OAC 58.

Jayne and Mac came from the 'Hub of Huron County' where I spent many a happy summer at Summer Hill on the BaseLine and caught the 'farming bug' which led to OAC and a life-long friendship with Mac Taylor.

Story #3. The Red Fire Truck
In the summer of 1957, Taylor, Grunder and Moore pooled their resouorces and purchased a 1925 REO Speedwgon fire truck for $150. One October evening, funds were pooled again [$7] to embark on a trip to Florida on the firetruck over the Christmas vacation. The firecrew was Charlie Gracey, Al Grunder, DonBrock, John Wiley, John Quinn, Stan Leuty and Mac Taylor (with bagpipes). There was room for 5 under a tarp in the back while the driver and co-pilot wore bearskin coats in the open cab. The diary of the trip is written in the archives of the Class. Suffice it to say that the crew survived flat tires (at least 8), engine fire, dead battery, boiling rad, rain, snow and running out of gas. Hospitality en-route was courtesy of a nurses residence in Jacksonville and the Alpha Phi Epsilon faternity at Bucknell University. The fire truck caper ended back on campus one day after classes started. The exhausted firetruck was donated to a service club in Hillsburg.

Now for the rest of the story. For the 50th Class Reunion in June 2008, Mac Taylor showed-up in a red antique firetruck borrowed from the Blyth Fire Department with the Fire Chief and driver. That was a reunion for 5 of the original 7 (sans Wiley and Quinn). Classmates and spouses were transported to dinner at Creelmand Hall by the RED Fire Truck. The next day it was welcommed by the Chief and firemen of the Guelph Fire Department.

All thanks to Mac Taylor. You made us proud!

58" classmate
My sympathy to Jayne and family. We all share our Huron County roots.

As a classmate of OAC "58" the 2 Macs met in 1954. Distance prevented close contact since graduation

but the friendship of classmates never diminishes.

Mac. Bolton

The Swing Kings, OAC 58
As for Mac Taylor, my memories of him will always be linked to our sophomore year, 1955/56, and our band "The Swing Kings". I distinctly remember Mac at the drums, Jack Sargent (ducktail and all) at the piano, Bill Babitt at the clarinet, Garth "Hot Lips" Smith at the trumpet, Paul Ferris at the banjo, and myself at the accordeon.

Honed by our appearances at various year parties and Junior Farmers dances and buoyed by the acclaim of our fans at OAC, Mac, and OVC, we entered College Royal in 1955 in the class of "Other Musical Performances". The judge happened to be a music professor from Toronto, whose sparse and rather caustic comment - "well, that was a lot of drum whacking" - we thought, missed out on a lot of the finer points of our rendering of "When the Saints go marching in". - Needless to say, we never entered College Royal again.

Dear Bill, please, pass on my sympathy to Jayne and to Mac's family and friends. For me, his memory will continue to shine as vivid as ever.

Your freshman and sophomore classmate

Jork Sellschopp
