Wilbur - Quite a Character! I was a farmhand from September until November 1973. Wilbur let me operate the combine but he never paid me a dime after 3 months. He then referred me to his buddy Harold Saddler across the river, an American living in a trailer in the bush, eeking out an existence farming/ranching. This guy made me do a lot of dangerous stuff, such as working by myself with a chainsaw and no safety equipment. He sent me away in the middle of winter without pay. I was told to catch a ride on a snowplow back to the Alaska Highway. Nice guys, those two. Oh yeah, I remember what was written on Wilbur's CB radio card: "I like to go swimming with bow-legged women and dive between their knees. Their t..s hang loose like the balls on a moose and go floating around the breeze!" His favorite song was "Squaws along the Yukon are good enough for me!" He also had a lot of girl friends along the Alaska Highway, no wonder Mary left him. Oh well, nobody is perfect. Rest in peace, old man...

Back in September 1973 I arrived on Berge Farms straight from Germany, thanks to Arlene who got me a job on her Dad's farm. Worked there until the harvest was in. Fond memories: our trip in the pick-up truck down the bumpy country road to Rolla for a few too many beers. Rest in peace. It was good to know you.

We had some great times together when we all belonged to the CB Radio Club. Wilbur was always there to help organize and participate in all the events. And of course we loved to listen to the music that he and the Wee Highlander played. Seeing him at the jamborees recently was great as we always talked about those special times. Rest in peace, Wilbur. Our condolences to all the family.
