Obituary of Rhoda Caroline Dunsmore
Rhoda Dunsmore, a long time resident of Dawson Creek, B.C. passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016 in Rotary Manor at the age of 94 years.
Rhoda Caroline Crull was born on May 7, 1922 in Viscount, Saskatchewan. She came to Dawson Creek in April of 1929 with her parents Arthur and Anna Crull. Rhoda had two sisters, Teresa Alexander and Ella Mounsey, and a brother Arthur Crull. Rhoda attended school at Kilkaren from 1930 to 1934 and then to Lakeview School from 1934 to 1938. She completed her schooling by correspondence. Rhoda was employed at the Dawson Creek Co-Op in the grocery department for five years. She worked in the shoe department and also in the office. Rhoda also worked in the bakery as a baker's helper and she was the cake decorator. She also decorated wedding cakes and over the years made many beautiful cakes for brides in the community. Rhoda and her husband Archie owned and operated the New Deal Grocery Store on 95th Avenue in Dawson Creek from 1957 to 1969. Many of the students from the Grandview School and Frank Ross would visit the store on their lunch breaks. She was a long time member of the Sons of Norway, and she was also a Legion Auxiliary member. Rhoda was predeceased by her husband Archie Dunsmore, her daughter Doreen Wagner, her sisters Teresa and Ella, her brother Art, and her parents Arthur and Anna Crull. Rhoda leaves to mourn her daughter Maude Dunsmore, her son Nathan (Bev) Dunsmore, her grandchildren: Cindy (George) Ricard, Kara (Bob) Shilds, Paul (Mariana) Dunsmore, Lee (Dana) Wagner, and Angelia Wagner, as well as her great grandchildren: Ambroise and Chantal Ricard, Tiana and Katelyn Schilds, Natasha Wagner, Austin Connelly, Madison McKenzie, and Ryan and America Dunsmore. A Funeral Service was held on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 11:00 AM from Reynars Funeral Chapel. Bev Dunsmore officiated. Interment followed in the Dawson Creek City Cemetery.
