Obituary of Claude Hurtibise
Claude Hurtibise was born November 20, 1920 in Cluny, Alberta and died May 25, 2017 in Dawson Creek, B.C. at the age of 96. He was the ninth generation of his family in Canada and the last child of Gustave Hurtibise, also a long-time resident of Dawson Creek, and his mother Ida Charette. They came west in 1916 and settled in Cluny. Claude was well-liked, a hunter and fisherman, and worked in the area most of his life. Claude is survived by his nieces, Genevieve Janssen, Yvette Gourdinne, Mariette Erasmus, and Madeleine McPherson. Also by many close friends, especially Marlene Scriven and Vincent Lambe, Carolyne and John Rusin, Bob Follensbee and Dee Delsey. Many thanks to Sister Connie Harkin for a moving service. Claude was predeceased by his parents and his brothers and sisters, Yvonne Gourdinne, Germaine, Ubald, Laurette, Ernest, Jeanne, Alice,and Paul.
A memorial service was held Friday, June 2, 2017 at 2pm at the Bergeron Chapel, Dawson Creek, British Columbia. Claude was cremated and buried alongside his father and step-mother in Dawson Creek City Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Claude may be made by donation to the charity of your choice.
