Obituary of Joe Romie Bodnar
Joe Bodnar 1932 - 2017 It is with profound sadness the Bodnar family share about the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. With his wife and daughter at his side Joe Bodnar peacefully left this world on Friday, June 2, 2017 at the age of 84 years in the Dawson Creek and District Hospital. Joe Romie Bodnar was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on June 11, 1932 to parents Fedor and Tatiana Bodnar. Joe was married to Millie for over 63 years and raised three children Sandra, Joanne and Gordon. He was a devoted family man and a staunch community supporter. He worked as an insurance adjuster in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John for almost 60 years. Joe played hockey for the Fort St. John Flyers and Dawson Creek Canucks for many years. Along with his wife they began the speed skating and swim clubs in Fort St. John. Joe is survived by his devoted wife Millie, daughter Sandra, husband Terry O'Donovan, grand children Tatiana, husband Keith Brown and Kathleen, husband Gerad Smithard and Chantelle O'Donovan along with great grandchildren Donovan Brown, Kourtlynn, Evan, and Hannah Smithard, his daughter Joanne Gilbertson, and grand children Jennifer and Shane Gilbertson, wife Caitlin as well as sisters Mary Boychuck of Regina, Elsie Lowe from Oakland, California and Frances Michaels of Red Deer.
Joe was predeceased by his beloved son Gordie, parents Fedor and Tatiana, brother Gordie, in-laws Frank and Agatha (Blackstock) Speer, brother and sister-in-law Bill and Sonja Speer, brothers-in-law Jim Boychuck and Alex Lowe. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 10:00am at the South Peace United Church, Dawson Creek, British Columbia.
