Obituary of John Donald Sajtovich
John Sajtovich 1937 - 2017 John was born March 21, 1937 at home in Baytree, Alberta to Mary and Mike Sajtovich. He grew up with 3 older siblings: Ann, Mike and Mary and one younger sister Margaret. He attended Many Creeks School and Notre Dame Catholic School in Dawson Creek until he was needed at home to help on the farm.
In 1959 he married Helen Taylor and together raised 5 children; Dwight, Paul, Dean, Peter and Susan. John and Helen shared almost 56 years of marriage before Helen's passing in 2015. They were proud of their large family and loved their 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. At age 13, John's father gifted him one cow which started his herd and ever since then John worked daily, building his farm into the successful operation it is today. Despite being successful John never forgot where he came from and was selfless in all he did, giving the shirt off his back for anyone and was always there to help a neighbor in need. He also loved to joke; he was constantly teasing the grandchildren and would often say something to bring us all to tears with laughter. These jokes were sometimes a little inappropriate and Helen would be furious for sharing them with his children and grandchildren. John was predeceased by wife Helen, parents Michael and Mary, son Dwight, grandchildren Kyle and Chelsey, sister Ann (Nick), in-laws Evelyn, Jack (Arlene), Norm (Pat), Marjorie (Edward), Ruth, Donald (Verna), Glen, Robert, and Bob. He is survived by children Paul, Dean (MaryAnn), Peter (Leanne), and Susan (Andy), grandchildren Calvin (Victoria), Todd (Angela), Candace (Darren), Megan (Matt), Samantha, Victoria, Jessica, and Mark, great grandchildren Austin, Laura, Kira, Waylon, and Adalyn, siblings Mike, Mary (Walter), and Margaret, and in-laws Gary (Bev) and Audrey. A funeral service was held June 30, 2017 at the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, officiated by Father Kwena. Expressions of sympathy in memory of John may be made by donation to: The Guillain-Barr Syndrome Foundation of Canada, P.O. Box 80060 RPO Rossland Garden, Whitby, Ontario L1R 0H1.
